Crematorium’s helping hand for hospice

A hospice which specialises in caring for anyone who has been diagnosed with a serious illness has received a helping hand itself from a local crematorium.

Saint Francis Hospice cares for people who live in and around Havering, Brentwood, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and parts of West Essex.

It recently received a £2,000 donation to help cover the costs of the compassionate care and support services it provides from Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium.

The donation was made from the crematorium’s metal recycling scheme.

With the consent of families, metals recovered during cremation are recycled, and any money raised is used to support selected charities, local activities and environmental initiatives which benefit the communities that the crematorium serves.

Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 40 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Georgina Brown, Local Engagement Officer for Saint Francis Hospice, said: “From the minute I met Daren from the crematorium, he was so welcoming; you can see he truly cares about what he does and wants to make sure everyone gets their wishes, even at the end.

“Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium supports so many local charities and we are so grateful to be on that list; the work they do is truly remarkable.

“When visiting the crematorium and hearing some of the stories from funerals they have held, it is clear that they do their very best to make sure everything is perfect for the family.

“The support they have shown to the hospice, not only through their incredibly kind donation but also by offering for their groundskeepers to volunteer their time to help with the grounds at the hospice, was wonderful.”

Daren Trinder, manager of Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium, said: “Saint Francis Hospice has been devoted to making everyone’s life the very best it can be for some 40 years.

“The charity needs to raise more than £8 million every year and rely on donations and gifts from local people, companies and schools.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to support the hospice, which provides such valuable support to families within our local communities when they need it most.”
