Families invited to join Forest Park Crematorium’s Wave of Light event

A Wave of Light will be sweeping over Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium next month in support of those who have experienced baby or pregnancy loss.

Anyone who is carrying the experience of baby or pregnancy loss is invited to visit the crematorium on between October 9 and 15, which is Baby Loss Awareness Week – something that has been running since 2002.

Under the title of a ‘Wave of Light’ event, visitors to the crematorium are being invited to drop in on any day during the week, between 9am and 5pm, and write a name or a personal note to a loved one on a pink or blue ribbon, which can then be tied to a memorial bench.

Visitors can also take time to pause and reflect, while reading a poem which will be displayed on the bench.

Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium is part of  Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 41 other sites in England, Scotland and Wales, and which is trusted by more families than any other provider to deliver funerals for their loved ones.

All of Westerleigh's locations are set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect, while benefitting from exceptional care and support from its teams.

Crematorium Manager Daren Trinder said: “Baby Loss Awareness Week provides a focus for grieving parents and families to commemorate their loved ones, while also raising awareness of pregnancy and baby bereavements.

“Organising our event gives those within our local community who have been affected by pregnancy and baby loss a comforting environment in which to remember and reflect, with people who have had similar experiences to their own.

“Ribbons can be collected throughout the week from our Book of Remembrance room and we hope that everyone who visits us will find a small source of comfort from the ribbons.

“Parents, siblings, families and friends are all very welcome to join us during the week, and no advance booking is necessary.

“You don’t need to have held a funeral service here or have a memorial in our grounds, the invitation to our Wave of Light event is open to anyone who feels they may benefit from joining us.”
