Work Starts Soon to Improve Redbridge Cemeteries – March 2021
Work is set to start next month (March) on the first phase of a programme of works to refurbish and improve overall standards at three Redbridge cemeteries.
Barkingside Garden of Rest, Barkingside Cemetery and Buckingham Road Cemetery will have sections of their roads resurfaced and repairs to the kerbing over the coming weeks.
The three sites are fully managed, maintained and used for burials for the local community by the Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries.
It has 35 sites of its own nationwide and maintains and operates these three sites under a concession agreement with the London Borough of Redbridge.
Work is due to start between late March to early April and is expected to take around two weeks at each location, during which time there may be some disruption for visitors, although the sites will remain open.
Work will take place between 8am and 4pm and the areas directly affected will be fenced off in order to ensure public safety, which means there may be occasions when people may not be able to access graves and memorials.
Astrud Matanle, Regional Manager for the Westerleigh Group, said: “We care deeply about the standard of facilities at all our sites, whether owned by us or operated and maintained by us, in order to provide the best service and experience for those who visit.
“These works form part of a planned phased refurbishments of these sites, with further work due to take place later in the year and over the next few years.
“If anyone has concerns about whether or not they will be able to access graves or memorials while this work takes place, they should contact the Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium office on 020 8501 2236.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during the works but hope people will appreciate that it will improve the facilities and their experience of visiting when the work is complete.”
